Carl F. Hartig Jr, age 82, passed away on September 26, 2024 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 9, 1942 in Holyoke, son of the late Carl F. Hartig Sr and Nellie P. (Gawlik) Hartig. Carl was a veteran of the US Navy serving his country at the Bay of Pigs. He owned an accounting practice and also worked as an educator for many years before he recently retired. He loved education and taught at several colleges as an adjunct faculty member, as well as at Palmer High School. He earned a bachelors, two masters and received his Phd at age 60. He was a Mason for 50 years. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Robina (Barrie) Hartig of Kingston, MA; two sons, Scott Hartig and his wife Ann of Kingston, MA and Christopher Hartig and his wife Diane of West Springfield, MA; one brother, Robert Hartig of Holyoke, MA; two sisters, Pauline Ruddeforth and her husband William of Holyoke, MA and Barbara Krastin of Monson., MA; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2024 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2024 from 8:30 – 9:30 AM at the Grise Funeral Home followed by an in house prayer service at 9:30 AM. Committal prayers with military honors will follow in the Chapel of the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Agawam. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
