Dorothy M. (Donnelly) Hurd of Halifax, MA went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, September 25th at her home of 65 years.
In the spring of 1941, she was born in Brockton, MA to her beloved parents Frank Donnelly and Alice (Beland) Donnelly of Whitman, MA.
After high school she went to beauty school and worked as a hairdresser for a number of years. She met her former husband David K. Hurd of Hingham on a blind date. After they moved to Halifax they had 2 amazing children, Donna and David. She adored her grandchildren, Marcus, Chelsea, Aiyanna and great grandchildren Remy, Kaiden and Vienna.
Dorothy was a cook for BR’S Restaurant for over 25 years in Halifax, MA. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and spreading her infectious laughter. She was an avid reader who enjoyed reading books about the Amish. Dorothy liked knitting and making baby blankets for expectant mothers, sweaters for children overseas and scarves for the homeless. Dorothy looked forward to her phone calls with her sister to talk about their soap operas, their children, and grandchildren.
Dorothy was delighted about giving to others. Whether it was baking cookies, giving a piece of timely advice, a small gift or a “thinking of you” card. She continues to give in death by donating her body to the Anatomical Program at Harvard Medical School.
Her children would like to express sincere gratitude to her medical team. Doctors Chopra, Rosen, Patel. Siddiqui, and Vedula. Thank you to her Pacemaker technician Lori, Diyalsis nurse Michelle, and the nurses from the Brockton Visiting Nurses, Alice, and Rose.
She will be greatly missed by those who loved her most. Her daughter Donna M. Hurd of Halifax, David K. Hurd Jr. and his partner Rebecca of Halifax, Grandson Marcus Hunt and fiancé Christina, Granddaughter Chelsea Cook and husband Damian, Granddaughter Aiyanna Williams and boyfriend Marcel. Her great grandchildren Remy, Kaiden and Vienna. Her brother David Donnelly of Rockland and his wife Sandra, her sister Donna Frazier (Donnelly) and her Husband Gordon. She has many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
A celebration of her life will be held in the upcoming months. A formal burial will occur when she graduates from Harvard.
