LOWELL Theresa M. (McNulty) Cox, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 20, 2024 at her home. She was the widow of the late Kenneth F. Cox who passed away unexpectedly in 1988 after nearly thirty years of marriage.
Theresa was the daughter of the late George and Ellen (O’Rourke) McNulty; was raised in East Chelmsford, where she attended area schools. A devoted communicant of St. Margaret of Scotland Parish, she was actively involved in the church as a member of the St. Margaret Sodality. She also served on the board of the Merrimack Valley Catholic Charities, dedicating her time to helping others in her community.
Theresa enjoyed traveling, making frequent trips to Florida and New York City. She also traveled to Europe over the years but her favorite place was Ireland. Theresa and Kenny began yearly trips to Ireland in the early 1980s. After his death, she traveled there frequently with her daughters, visiting Irish cousins, the McDonnells and the Hickeys. Theresa, Carolyn and Audrey would explore the countryside and she loved nothing more than enjoying an Irish coffee while listening to Irish music and chatting with the locals in the pubs.
Theresa also enjoyed good times with the Cox side of the family. October foliage weekends in Ossipee and fun gatherings in Whitman MA.
In Lowell, Theresa was a longtime member of the Merrimack Regional Theatre. She attended shows with a great group of girlfriends, Gerri, Elizabeth, Kay, Jance and Lil. She also enjoyed some fun trips with these ladies, traveling to Hawaii and Alaska among other places.
Theresa was devoted to her Catholic faith. Over the years, in May, she would gather with her friends, "The Rosary Ladies" to say the rosary at the Franco American Grotto.
Above all else, Theresa treasured the company of her friends and family. During the summer, she loved living at 'The Park' at Hampton Beach, spending time with her sister Gertrude until her passing in 2015. She and her good friend in the Park, Ellen Bertolini loved to go shopping at Talbots and attended Mass every Saturday. Her nephew Michael Marcoux enjoyed cooking them dinner on weekends. Neighbors could stop by to say hello and were always greeted with a smile. She was kind and gracious to everyone she met.
Theresa worked with her husband at their family business Cox Fuel Company in Lowell for many years. She greeted customers, answered phones and made the daily deposits. She continued the legacy after he passed away tragically in 1988.
Theresa was a devoted mother to her two daughters her entire life. A day never went by without the three of them expressing their love for one another. Theresa cherished her time with them as they adored her and were grateful for every day they spent with her.
Her survivors include her two daughters, M. Carolyn Cox, and Audrey A. Cox, Carolyn's longtime partner, Eugene Manley; her sister in law, Mary Patricia McNulty; her close friend, Maryann Dolloff; and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews, including her godson, John F. Conway and his wife, Noreen.
