Gary E. Mauk, 80, of Westport, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital. He was the husband of Patricia A. (Lanager) Mauk.
Gary was born in DuBois, PA, son of the late Earl E. and Norma L. (Hevener) Mauk and had resided in Westport since 1975. Prior to retirement, he worked as an electrical engineer after graduating from Penn State University. He loved the town of Westport and gave his support to many organizations in town over the years. Recently, he started a solar power generation business with projects in town and throughout New England. Gary had two favorite hobbies, tinkering on all things mechanical and bragging about his grandchildren to anyone who would listen. He and Patricia enjoyed spending time with the family and summertime clam boils on the Compound.
Gary passionately served the community of Westport as a member of the Finance Committee for 9 years, as a member of the Select Board for 3 years, and numerous other committees and planning groups. People that met Gary knew where he stood on all things. While reputed to be stubborn on some issues he was a loyal friend to many and could be counted on to help any friend in need. His heart was as big as his personality. To many he was simply Gary but to the family and to close friends he was Big Pa.
Survivors along with his wife include his 2 sons: Gary E. Mauk, Jr and wife Lisa A. and Glenn E. Mauk, both of Westport; his 2 daughters: Jennifer L. Burhans and husband Derek W. of Berlin NY and Amy L. Morris and husband Paul A. of Hingham, MA; brother: John A. Mauk of FL; sister: Marsha E. Mineweaser of FL; 10 grandchildren: Uriah, Ency, Benjamin, Livy, Jake, Jackson, Alec, Jillian, Sam, and Nathan; 2 great grandchildren: Jackson and Madellynn; niece: Rebecca and 2 nephews: Joel and Jeremy.
A memorial service will be planned in the future.
