M. Susan Marriott, 92 of Meredith, NH died Sunday September 22, 2024 at the Parkland Medical Center, Derry, NH. Susan was born in Ayer, MA on March 1, 1932, a daughter of the late George and Marion (Kemp) Pierce. She raised her family in Townsend, MA before moving to New Hampshire. She called Meredith, NH her home, and spent the harsher winter months in Hampstead, NH to be closer to her family.
She is survived by one son, Robert E. Marriott, Jr. and his wife Melissa of Westborough, MA, one daughter, Rebecca Hanna and her husband Anthony of Chester, NH, four grandchildren, Robert E. Marriott III, Joseph A. Hanna, Thomas S. Hanna, and Emily A. Hanna, three great-grandchildren, Jackson, Franklin and Lincoln. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert E. Marriott, Sr., and by her granddaughter, Elizabeth J. Marriott.
She grew up in Groton, MA. She had a lifelong love of driving, starting by driving dad’s large construction vehicles and co-driving her mother’s car during World War II. She joined her Dad and brother with the love of horse racing spending many days at Lynncrest and at the numerous New England fairs watching their sulky horses race. She was an active member of society. She was the President of the Massachusetts Women’s Dental Society, Treasurer of the church, active member of the Townsend Couples Club, cub and girl scout leader, avid player of bridge and mahjong and worked for the Groton School. Her favorite place was in Meredith where her family built “The Camp” in 1944. She started summering there in the 70’s with her young family and moved to the lake in 1991 with her husband. She was a loving mother, wife, aunt, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her determination to be independent kept her sharp and driving until the end.
Following cremation, a celebration of Susan’s life will be held at the lake in the summer of 2025. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: The Loon Preservation Committee Moultonborough, NH.
