Irene Koenig, born November 29th, 1943 passed away September 19th, 2024 leaving behind a legacy of compassion, creativity, and spiritual guidance. Daughter of Holocaust survivors Eric and Lisa Koenig, Irene was born and raised in New London, CT. She graduated from New London High School and went on to attend the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City on a scholarship. Her talent as an artist and designer led to a successful 30-year career in the fashion industry, where she launched her own label, Erena by Irene Koenig.
Irene’s career extended beyond fashion when she found her true calling in spiritual counseling. She became a teacher of both the Pathwork and Core Energetics, helping people around the world to heal and grow. She traveled as far as Brazil to lead workshops and share her wisdom and guidance. Her second career brought her immense fulfillment and touched the lives of many.

A passionate supporter of her community, Irene was involved with local nonprofit organizations alongside her husband, Neil. She also sat on the board of Expressiones Cultural Center in New London for eight years. Her commitment to helping others was a central theme throughout her life.

In her later years, Irene rekindled her love for painting, spending much of her time taking art classes and expressing her creativity. She was also a devoted member of the spiritual group Pilgrims of Mystic, where her close friends became a cherished second family.

Irene was predeceased by her first husband, Joe Black; second husband, Neil Kluepfel, the love of her life; her parents; a brother Lewis Koenig; and a sister Susan Volkart. She is survived by her sister, Robin Savar (Johnathan Savar). Irene was like a mother to her niece, Morgan Volkart (Eric Guest), and was a beloved great-aunt to Gia Guest.

Known for her infectious laugh and joyful spirit, Irene valued deep, meaningful connections and lived a life of love and service to others. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
