Obituary

Virginia E. (Staveley) Marchand, 93, of Alton Bay, NH and formally of Chelmsford, MA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Hillsborough County Nursing Home. She was born in Lowell, MA, on January 14, 1931, a daughter of late Norris and Sarah (Welsh) Staveley. Virginia enjoyed knitting and spent summers at Lake Winnipesaukee, receiving her nickname “Coast Guard”, here she enjoyed family and boating. During the winter months, she was a snowbird in Fort Myers, FL, she was a member of Orange Harbor First Mates Club. She is predeceased by the love of her life her husband of 58 years Robert “Bob” Marchand and her brother Raymond Staveley who died serving his country in World War II. She is survived by her daughter Sharon (Marchand) Wiljanen of Fitchburg, MA; her two grandchildren, Ashley Wiljanen of Berlin, MA and Eric Wiljanen of Templeton, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Association, The Highlands, 335 Nichols Rd., Fitchburg, MA 01420.

Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, from 9 to 11 AM at Edgar J. Racicot Funeral Home, 1400 Broadway Rd. Dracut. Virginia’s funeral service will be celebrated at 11 o’clock at Racicot Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Saint Joseph cemetery Chelmsford.
