Obituary

Pasquale “Patrick” Melchionda, age 93, of Medford passed away on Tuesday, September 17th, at Massachusetts General Hospital of Boston. A lifelong Medford resident, he was the son of the late Joseph and Julia (Rocci) Melchionda. Patrick proudly served in the Army during the Korean War. After returning to civilian life, he was employed by the Medford Public School System, and served as Director of Fine Arts.

Patrick loved to teach, and in retirement volunteered at King’s Elementary School in Cambridge. He also volunteered his time at the Museum of Science, the Museum of Fine Arts, and the USS Constitution. Patrick was an avid gardener, and also enjoyed woodworking. He was always on the go, and was a favorite in his neighborhood who will be remembered for his kindness and great sense of humor.

Patrick was the beloved husband of Lucille (Bruno) Melchionda, and the devoted father of Ann Irza and her husband John, Patricia Grant, and Joseph Melchionda and his wife Kirstin. He is also survived by five loving grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit with Patrick’s family on Tuesday, September 24th from 4 PM through 8 PM in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, and again on Wednesday, September 25th at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford, at 10 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
