Elizabeth Ann (Berry) Long, lovingly known as Betty, peacefully passed away on September 14, 2024, at St. Vincent’Hospital after a sudden illness. Born on October 26, 1944, Betty devoted her life to cherishing her family, friends, and community.
She leaves her daughter, Kelly Ann Morello and her fiancé, Matthew Moore of Hubbardston; her son, Christopher Long of Worcester; her beloved granddaughter, Molly Clare Morello; her sister-in-law, Linda (Dickie) Berry of Arizona; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was reunited in spirit with her husband and high school sweetheart, John W. Long, who predeceased her in 2012. She is also predeceased by her siblings, Gene, Carol, and Earl.
She was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Robert and Esther (Benoit) Berry. A proud graduate of South High School in 1963, where she was voted “Best Dressed,” Elizabeth later attended Williams College and Anna Maria College. Her passion for learning was infectious, and she loved sharing her knowledge with those around her. Betty enjoyed a fulfilling career in banking, dedicating 25 years to estate planning before retiring from Bank of Boston.
Known for her vibrant spirit and delicate nature, Betty had a deep passion for quilting, home decorating, and antique collecting, always drawn to the stories behind each piece. In the 1970s, she spread joy by teaching disco lessons to friends in her basement, celebrating her love of music, especially oldies and disco. Betty’s heart was devoted to helping others; she volunteered for many years at St. Peter's food pantry, making a significant impact in the lives of those in need. A faithful Catholic, Elizabeth found peace and solace in her faith, which guided her throughout her life. She loved the Berkshires and Cape Cod, often retreating to these beautiful places for inspiration and reflection. Her greatest joy came from her family and friends, as she never forgot a birthday, always sending cards or making calls to celebrate. Her family will forever cherish her support at baseball games, late-night talks, and cozy evenings spent watching her favorite TV shows like "Gilmore Girls," "Parenthood," and "Grey's Anatomy.”
Elizabeth will be profoundly missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of thoughtfulness, kindness, and community service will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
A celebration of life will be celebrated at a later date. There are no calling hours. O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue is assisting the family with arrangements.
