With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Chong Suk Lee, a cherished mother and friend. Chong Suk, who left us on August 21, 2024, in Santa Barbara, California, was born Chong Suk Yoo on June 6, 1950, in Seoul, South Korea. Her life was a rich tapestry of diverse experiences and deep passions.
Chong Suk’s journey took her from her native Seoul, where she worked as an animator, to New York City, where she excelled as a massage therapist. Her talent and warmth in her role as a massage therapist earned her many celebrity clients and a reputation for excellence. Her path eventually led her to Los Angeles, where she found fulfillment in her work as a salesperson. Throughout her career, she carried with her an unwavering commitment to helping others, particularly the homeless, and generously supported numerous charities.
An accomplished and dedicated individual, Chong Suk earned a bachelor's degree in theology from Cohen University and was ordained as a Christian minister. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her compassion and generosity.
Chong Suk was a vibrant spirit. She had a profound love for singing, reading, watching action movies, and listening to 1960s music. Her sense of humor was infectious, and she was known for her ability to find joy and laughter in everyday moments.
She is survived by her son, Lenny Shelton, who was the pride of her life, and her loving daughter-in-law, Raja. Chong Suk was also a beloved grandmother to their cherished dogs, Minnie and Happy.
Chong Suk Lee’s legacy of kindness, laughter, and love will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity supporting the homeless, in honor of Chong Suk’s enduring commitment to making the world a better place.
