Charles James Walsh, 80 years old of Dorchester passed away on September 14, 2024.
Charlie was born in Jamacia Plain, the oldest son of Anne and Herbert Walsh’s twelve children. A proud Army veteran he returned from overseas service in 1966, taking night classes at Northeastern University while raising his family. He graduated and worked for much of his life as a substance abuse counselor, including over 20 years at the VA. In addition to supporting men and women struggling with addiction, he was also a tireless advocate for the VA’s former prisoner of war support group.
He was pre-deceased by his parents and his four brothers Peter, Leo, Paul and Jospeh. He is survived by his sisters, Carol Walsh, Peggy Paquette, Barbara Philbrick, Rita Grossman, Janice Howe and Corrine Philbrick and his brother and dear friend Richard Walsh. He leaves behind his loving children Charles Walsh, Jr and Susan Terrey, her husband Jeff Terrey, and their mother Kathleen Walsh. He was an incredibly proud and loving Papa to his adored grandchildren Joseph and Kathleen Terrey and a loving uncle to his many, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. His big heart held a love of fun, art, animals, and his smile lit up the room.
