OSTERVILLE—Dorothy C. Eastham, age 99, died Thursday, July 27th at the Academy Manor Nursing Home, in Andover. She had been a resident of Osterville since 1969.
She was born in Lowell, a daughter of the late William D. and Mary A. (McCarthy) Eastham. She was a graduate of Lowell State Teacher’s College and earned a Master’s Degree from Rivier College.
Miss Eastham’s first teaching assignment was a two room schoolhouse in Marstons Mills Village on Cape Cod. She also taught in the elementary school of Barnstable Village before taking a teaching position in Billerica. For over 30 years, she taught at the Bartlett School in Lowell. During her later years, she was affiliated with the University of Massachusetts at Lowell as a Training Teacher for elementary education students.
In retirement, she was an active member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church Choir and Ladies Guild. She was also associated with the Friends of Osterville Library, the Massachusetts Retired Teachers’ Association, and several other professional organizations. Her favorite pastimes included bridge, Scrabble, music, reading, and crafts.
Surviving her are a sister-in-law, Barbara Eastham of Osterville; three nephews: Brian McDonough of Falmouth, Leo Eastham of Texas, Dr. Mark Eastham of California; six nieces: Gail Oldroyd of Washington; Rosanna Eastham Blais of Texas; Carmen Eastham Kelleher of Texas; Maura Eastham Quinn of Lowell; Cathleen Eastham Kilmartin of Kentucky; and Susan Eastham Porter of Connecticut; also thirteen beloved grand nieces and grandnephews.
She was the sister of the late Gertrude, Ruth, William, Donald, Leo, Stephen, and Edward Eastham.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Mass Monday July 31st, at 11 AM at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION PARISH, 76 Wianno Road, Osterville. Burial in the Mosswood Cemetery, Cotuit.
