Maurice J. “Moe” Rana, 95, of Worcester passed away Tuesday, September 10th in UMASS Memorial Medical Center – University Campus after a brief illness. His wife of 30 years, Lorraine (Eident) Rana died in 1981. He leaves a son, John Rana and his wife, Pat of Worcester; a daughter, Karen Clark and her husband, James of Worcester; three grandchildren, Michael Clark and his wife, Mary, Tracy Eisnor and her husband, Justin, and Matthew Rana and his companion, Montanna; three great grandsons, Jack, Harrison, and Bennett Eisnor who always put a smile on their great grandpa’s face; his son-in-law, Howard Potash of Worcester; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Maureen Potash; four brothers, Dominic, Frank, Michael, and Nicholas Rana; and two sisters, Rose Oliver, and Adeline Rana.
He was born in Worcester the son of John and Frances (Faccenda) Rana and proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army as a Corporal during the Korean War. Moe was a Conductor with the 724th Railroad Operating Transportation Battalion which was responsible for hauling troops and supplies. Following his military service, Maurice began his career at Morse Shoe, but it was his role as the manager of the Frohsinn Club, which he ran with his wife for several years, that highlighted his commitment to fostering community spirit. Moe’s remarkable leadership continued for 20 years at the Worcester Lodge of Elks, where he retired in 1991. His outstanding service earned him the distinction of the Elk of the Year in 1969, a testament to his dedication and hard work. Moe was a proud lifetime member of the Worcester Lodge of Elks #243 and the Main South Post.
A devout Catholic, Moe was an active member of St. Andrew the Apostle Church, where his faith was a cornerstone of his life. His passion for life was evident in his many interests, including spending time at Hampton Beach, playing pool, cards, and cooking. He was an avid Yankee’s fan. Moe also enjoyed dancing in his younger years and cherished the time spent with his family during the holidays.
Maurice leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and commitment to both his family and community.
Funeral services and burial in Notre Dame Cemetery were privately held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 5 Spaulding Street, Worcester, MA 01603.
