William R. Torres, age 75, of Taunton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones on Friday, September 13, 2024 at the Morton Hospital in Taunton. He was the loving companion of Joan L. (Gonsalves) Lehane, with whom he shared he happily spent for the past twenty years.
Born in Bronx, New York on November 12, 1948, he was a loving son of the late Raul and Laura (Valentin) Torres.
Bill grew up in Washington Heights, New York and was educated in New York schools. He had been employed for over twenty years as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor at the UMASS Memorial Hospital in Worcester and following retirement, worked parttime at the BHG Pawtucket Treatment Center. Bill was ever-so-proud of his thirty-eight years of sobriety and had the distinction of appearing in the 1979 smash hit movie, “The Warriors.” He played as a member of Turnbull AC’s, one of several rival gangs trying to stop the Warriors from returning to their home turf in Coney Island, New York.
Bill’s love for family was unconditional and his children will always have a special memory of Bill being athletic when he was younger and having them participate in races. He and Joan loved to travel, taking cruises and their favorite point of destination was vacationing at Sea Oaks in beautiful Vero Beach, Florida. Bill will always be remembered for his meticulous appearance, always being sharply dressed, his enjoyment for ironing, being an avid reader and the special love he had for his cats “Ali” and “Jazz”.
In addition to Joan, he is survived by his loving and devoted children, Cynthia Torres and her companion Ringo Acosta of Bronx, New York, Priscilla Torres of Yonkers, New York, Melody Torres of Bronx, New York, Brian Lehane and his companion Theresa Costa of Dighton, Kristie Pelletier and her husband Jean Paul of Taunton, Kelly George and her husband Kirk of Norton and Marc Lehane and his wife Jenna of Waxhaw, North Carolina. He was the cherished grandfather of Robert Santana, Jr, Brittany Mercado, Madison Mendez, Ashley Lehane, Austyn Sousa, Leon Pelletier, Zachary George, Alex George, Madison Lehane, MacKenzie Lehane, Mason Lehane and the late Tyler Lehane. He was the treasured great grandfather of Nova and Reagan. He was the dear brother of Nelson Torres of Orlando, Florida, Margie Colon of Bronx, New York, Carmen Viruet and her husband Hiram of New Milford, New Jersey and the late Miriam Torres. He is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday, September 21st from 3:00-6:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp Street (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton.
A funeral service will be held at the conclusion of visiting hours at 6:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be private.
