Obituary

Maria Beatriz Vargas known to everyone as Betty - Ojai’s Tamale Lady passed away on Friday September 13th, 2024 in her home in Ojai, CA. Betty was born in Mexico City, MX to parents Pilar Perez and Desiderio Vargas on August 18th, 1967. Betty enjoyed spending time with all her grandchildren and children, drinking coffee and margaritas with her two sisters and Dancing.

She was honored and recognized as a Living Treasure of Ojai and oh was she a treasure. Never did she second guess helping someone in need. She was always involved in community service activities mostly cooking at Saint Thomas for shelter nights.

Betty is Survived by her older Sister Teresa(Ojai), younger sister Gabriela (Ojai) and younger brother Luis Fernando (Mexico). She leaves behind her five son’s Bruce, Brian, Firmo, Cesar and Angel. Her nieces Pilar and Andrea and nephew Steven. Grandchildren Stella, Brandon, Elena, Elijah, Nicholas, Ana, Rodolfo, Mackenna, Ximena and Valeria.

Betty joins her oldest brother Marcos in heaven.

The Family wishes to extend their gratitude to the whole community and all the support they offer. Ojai is an amazing place to be and truly supports its community. We are grateful for all who have been there through this difficult journey.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours to be held on Thursday evening September 19, 2024 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm in St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, 185 St Thomas Dr, Ojai, where a Most Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00pm. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Kirk Davis at 10:00am Friday morning September 20, 2024 again in St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, 185 St Thomas Dr, Ojai. Arrangements are under the direction of the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, Ventura.
