Jeanette Marie DeMattia, a longtime resident of Medford and later Wilmington, passed away peacefully at the age of 98 on September 13, 2024. Born in Somerville, MA, Jeanette was the beloved daughter of Mary and Charles DeAngelis. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Ernest DeMattia, her daughter Carol Clark, her grandson Craig Clark, and her siblings Eugene, Frank, Charles, John, and Lena.
Jeanette’s life was a testament to love and warmth. She had a unique talent for making every occasion special, turning everything from the first day of school to each holiday into a celebration. Her home was a place where everyone who entered felt like family, and she took delight in feeding anyone who visited. Her love for life was as strong as her love for desserts, which she shared generously with all.
Small in stature but strong in spirit and muscle, Jeanette was known for her sweet and humorous nature. She found joy in cooking, baking, and watching game shows, including “Let’s Make a Deal,” “The Price Is Right,” and “Wheel of Fortune,” which brought her daily joy. Up until a few years ago, she even found joy in ironing. Her tenacious spirit and boundless love made her the rock and heart of her family, a love that will continue to be felt and cherished by all who knew her.
Jeanette is survived by her children: Ernest DeMattia, Jr.; Robert DeMattia; and Janice Statuto (Ralph Statuto). She also leaves behind her son-in-law Craig Clark (of the late Carol Clark) and daughters-in-law Pamela DeMattia and Debbie DeMattia, who remained dear to her.
As a grandmother, lovingly known as Meme, Jeanette treasured every moment with her grandchildren: Ernest W. DeMattia; Deanna Wright (late Greg Wright); Stephanie Francis (Ralph Francis); Cariann Cooper (John Cooper); Christopher Clark (Barbara Lawlor); Angela Statuto and Thomas Statuto; Michael DeMattia and Christopher DeMattia. Jeanette was a loving great-grandmother to Alexis Norton (Daniel); Rabecca, Jacob, Joshua, and Jackson Cooper; Cheyanne and Nick DeMattia, Maddie and Benjamin Wright; Lillia and Reverie Francis; and Maxwell Statuto.
Jeanette’s kindness, strength, and her ability to make everyone feel at home will be profoundly missed. All who knew her will remember and cherish her legacy of love and laughter.
Please grab a cup of coffee and a sweet treat in honor of our sweet little lady.
