Gail B. Sanzi (Wood), 89, of Dorr Drive, Chepachet, passed away peacefully on Monday September 9th surrounded by family in Denton, TX. She was the wife of the late Richard J. Sanzi, and happily married to the love of her life for 67 years.
A daughter of the late Nellie E. Wood (Nichols) and Wilbert L. Wood. She had lived in Chepachet for 84 years born in Hartford, CT.
Gail loved spending her time at the beach and camping with her family and friends. She was an avid Boston sports fan, she was the first President of Arion Chorale Choir at Ponaganset High School, member of Cumberland Lincoln Chorus, Christian-Heirs Choir, and St. Eugene’s Church Choir. She served on the Foster-Glocester School System PTA as the president and then member. Her passion was singing, spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She always had a smile, a great big hug, a kind soothing word, and a home cooked meal for us and our friends growing up. She was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Daughter, her families biggest supporter, fan, cheerleader, and fiber that kept our family together.
Gail was a telephone operator, jewelry designer earlier in the day. She worked as a pharmacy tech for Chepachet Pharmacy for over 20 years, Old Chepachet Village for 10 years before retiring. After retiring, she cared for her late in-laws Eugene N. Sanzi, Helen M. (Conlon) Sanzi, her grandchildren allowing her children to work.
She leaves her children, Eugene N. (Robin) Sanzi of Putnam, CT, Richard J. (Vicky) Sanzi of Springfield, TN, Thomas P. Sanzi of Chepachet, RI, Frank J. (Kathy) Sanzi of Johnston,RI, Cheryl Ann (Hector) Sanzi-Hernandez of Denton, TX, Gail B. (Ernie) Sanzi of Westerly, RI. She is the grandmother of Angela Sanzi, Richard Sanzi, III, Dr. Eugene Sanzi, Alicia Sanzi, Kaila (Vinnie) Church, Rachel Sanzi, Tatianna Hernandez, KFD Capt. Hector Hernandez, Jacob Sanzi, William McGuire, Samantha Hernandez. She is the great-grandmother of Raelyn, Ethan, Alainn, Hailee, Hayden. She was the sister of the late Jean S. (Walter) Peszko of Hartford, CT, and George Wood of Hartford, CT. She leaves a niece, Lori Ryan, and nephews Mark Peszko, Scott Peszko.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, September 18th at 10am in St. Eugene Church, 1251 Putnam Pike, Chepachet. A Visitation will be held at the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville on Tuesday, September 17th from 4pm to 7pm.
Burial will be in Acotes Hill Cemetery, Chepachet. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the Chepachet Fire Department, PO Box 755, Chepachet, RI 02814 or the Ponaganset High School Choir, c/o Ponaganset High School, 137 Anan Wade Road, Glocester, RI 02857.
