Roland P. Vigneault, 98, died September 12, 2024 at Elliot Hospital following a period of declining health.
He was born on September 14, 1925 in Keene, NH., the son of Antonio and Julia (Genest) Vigneault.
He graduated from St. Joseph Grammar School in Keene, NH, in 1940 and from Keene High School in 1944. He worked as a bookkeeper in Keene, NH from 1944 to 1955. He attended Plymouth Teachers College and graduated in 1959.
He taught at Milford High School from 1959 to 1962 and was advisor to the Senior Class of 1962.
He taught Accounting and Macroeconomics at Manchester High School West from 1962 to 1988. While at West, he was Yearbook Advisor, Assistant Tennis Coach, Freshman Basketball Coach, and Supervisor of Teacher Recertification. In 1983, he received the Certificate of Excellence in the Presidential Scholars Program. He was named Teacher of the Year for the 1984-85 school year. In 1987, Bentley College presented him an award of recognition for “Excellence in Teaching.’ His great support of West High athletics was recognized in 1988 by the Blue Knights Booster Club. He frequently lectured with slides on the history of Manchester.
He was summer office manager at Camp Fatima, Gilmanton Iron Works, NH, for fifteen years. While at camp he enjoyed refereeing basketball and umpiring baseball games. At West, he and a colleague enjoyed being challenged by students on the tennis and racquetball courts.
He was a Communicant of St. Joseph’s Cathedral, St. George Parish, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish where he served as Eucharistic Minister and Funeral Acolyte, and St. Anthony of Padua Parish. He was a member of the Legion of One Thousand Men at the Precious Blood Monastery and a member of l’Association Canado-Americaine.
Mr. Vigneault held membership in the NH Retired Teachers Association and the Manchester area Retired Teachers Association.
Family members include: his sister, Claire Vigneault of Manchester, a niece, Alaine Chevalier, and nephew, Gerard Vigneault, along with grand nieces and grand nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother Wilfred Vigneault and his wife Cecile.
There are no calling hours.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 2, 2024 in St. Anthony of Padua Church at 10:30 am.
