McHALLAM, Jeanne Marie of West Roxbury, passed away on September 10, 2024

Jeanne M. McHallam was born in Boston on July 6, 1933. She was the middle child of seven sisters and brothers. She is survived by her sisters; Jane Ryan of West Roxbury and Margaret “Peggy” Ariel of Brewster. She was “Auntie” Jeannie to 17 nieces and nephews. Jeanne was preceded in death by her siblings; Elizabeth Sonia, Joseph McHallam, Gertrude Cashman, and James McHallam.

Jeanne was educated at Boston University and Northeastern University where she obtained the degree of Master of Public Administration. She had a long career in government, serving as Director of Multifamily Housing for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. She lived her entire life in Boston, first in Jamaica Plain, then Roxbury, and finally, West Roxbury where she had a home for nearly 50 years. Jeanne served on the City of Boston Conservation Commission as Commissioner in her retirement. She was a member of the Dedham Health and Athletic Club and could be found there weekly doing water aerobics and laps in the pool.

Jeanne was loved for her generosity and her wisdom. She helped any and all who needed her guidance. She will be missed.

Visiting hours will be held at the P.E. Murray - F.J. Higgins, George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home 2000 Centre St. West Roxbury on Friday, September 13th from 4-7pm. Funeral from the funeral home on Saturday, September 14th at 9am, followed by a Funeral Mass at Holy Name Church at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment Mt. Benedict Cemetery, West Roxbury. Expressions of sympathy may be made in Jeanne's memory to MAINSTAY Supporting Success Scholarship Program, 29 Crafts St. Suite 260, Newton, MA 02458.
