James "Jim" Finigan, age 83, of Medford died peacefully on Tuesday, September 10th, at Massachusetts General Hospital of Boston. Born in Cambridge, he was raised and educated in Somerville, the son of the late Michael and Elizabeth (Reidy) Finigan. Jim was a graduate of Somerville High School and was known for his devotion to all sports. He lived in Medford for over 60 years and worked as a carpenter. Jim loved spending time with family and friends, especially all his grandchildren. For many years, Jim coached for South Medford Little League. He was a beloved fan of the Bruins, Celtics, Patriots, and Red Sox.
Jim was the beloved husband of Lillian Finigan, and the devoted father of Darlene Thornton and her husband Richard of Medford, Michael Finigan and his wife Mary of Somerville, and Stephen Finigan and his wife Laurie of Medford. He was the devoted grandfather of Shawn Thornton, Tyler Finigan, Kaleigh Finigan, James Finigan, Kyle Finigan, and Rachel Finigan. Jim was an adoring great grandfather to Jordan Thornton. He was predeceased by the late Leo Finigan, Robert Finigan, Lenny Finigan, Elizabeth Baker, Sarah Finigan, Dorothy Schreib, and Elinor Nagle, and is survived by many nieces and nephews.
