Obituary

Christopher R. O’Brien, 52

Dateline: Norton, MA

Christopher R. O’Brien, age 52, of Norton, passed away, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at Rode Island Hospital in Providence. He was the beloved husband of Sharon (Lebovitz) O’Brien, with whom he recently celebrated their twenty-fifth anniversary of marriage.

Born in Norwood, MA on May 15, 1972, he was a loving son of Dorothy L. (Shaw) Belanger and her husband Norman of Middleboro and the late F. Paul O’Brien.

Chris grew up in Avon and was a graduate of South Shore Voc. Tech in Hanover. He had made his home in Norton twenty-five years and was employed as an Auxiliary Operator at MATEP in Boston for twenty-four years. When younger, he worked for Sullivan Tire, as well for various towing companies.

Chris’s life was all about a love for family, a passion for baseball and the Town of Norton. For many years he coached baseball from the levels of youth to high school varsity ages and for the Junior/Senior American Legion Post 222 League in Norton. He served as Head Coach for the Norton High School Varsity Baseball Team from 2020-2024 and was looking forward to a great 2025 season. He also served as an umpire, took great pride in the appearance of the playing fields and loved helping out with his daughter’s softball team.

Chris was a member of the Blue Hill Masonic Lodge in Stoughton and the Norton VFW Post 8049. From a young age, he loved turning wrenches, working on cars and was truly a jack-of-all trades. Chris also enjoyed entertaining family and friends, playing golf, was an avid bourbon connoisseur and will always be remembered for his remarkable sense of humor.

In addition to his wife and mother, he was the proud and devoted father of Staff Sergeant David B. Brennan, Jr., U.S. Army and his wife Keyla of Fort Stewart, Georgia, 2nd Class Petty Officer Jack R. O’Brien, U.S. Navy of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and Sarah A. O’Brien of Stoughton. He was the proud and cherished grandfather of Benjamin L. Brennan, who affectionately called him “Pops”. He was the dear brother of Karen O’Brien Doyle of Norton and the much-loved son-in-law of Cecilia MacCarty of Florida and the late Joseph Lebovitz. He is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, September 13th from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp Street (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton.
