Obituary

Thomas M. Weldon – 83 years old of Pembroke, passed on August 23, 2024 surrounded by his family, now reunited in Christ with his beloved wife, Maureen.

Tom was son of Thomas and Eileen Weldon, and older brother of the late Danny Weldon of Mission Hill, whom Tom dearly loved and admired as a man of keen intellect, unwavering integrity, and dedication to family.

Father of Kelly Valeri and her husband A.J. of Pembroke, Mosey Connelly and her husband Kevin of Kingston, Thomas, Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Duxbury, Kerry Damon and her husband Brian of Jacksonville, FL, Christopher of Pembroke, and Timothy and his wife Melissa of Pembroke. Exceptionally proud Papa to John, Emma & Grace Valeri, Kathleen & Owen Connelly, Elizabeth & Caroline Weldon, Andrew, Lindsey & Kevin Carlson, and Jordan & Jack Weldon.

Tom Weldon was one of a kind for so many reasons, not the least of which is that he entered life on August 12, 1941 at 12 lbs, 8 ozs, legend has it the biggest baby born in Boston that year. Tom was so proud to have been raised on Mission Hill, and routinely recounted in hysterical fashion the numerous great memories of his friends and the experiences he shared with them growing up on The Hill.

But, all else paled in comparison to the love of his life, Maureen (Curley) Weldon, also of Mission Hill. Tom and Maureen married at the Basilica at Mission Church in 1965. The rest is history. They moved to Holbrook where they started their family and made wonderful friends, and then to Pembroke where they set their roots, raised their six children, and made tremendous friendships over 56 amazing years.

Tom’s greatest love and passion was his family. He relished every sporting event, musical performance, sacrament, graduation, holiday, and every other family event of whatever nature. He was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren, and loved and embraced his sons-in-law and daughters-in-law (and their families) as his own.

In his profession, Tom was known for his work ethic and being a skilled cement mason. He was a very proud member of Boston Local 534 for more than forty years. He also worked side jobs to provide for his big and busy family. Testament to the quality of his work, Tom’s numerous works stand the test of time across the South Shore.

Not one to slow down, Tom became known as “The Foreman” at his children’s and friends’ homes when they had a project of any sort going on. Never was a job completed without Tom’s measured eye and stamp of approval.

In his free time, Tom was a voracious reader and self-taught historian. He devoured a wide variety of non-fiction, with a particular love and passion for Irish history. Tom also was a proud member of the Hilltop Athletic Association in Kingston where he enjoyed the camaraderie, conversation, and occasional game of cards with his friends. Moreover, in recent years Tom enjoyed conversations and coffee (and, perhaps, a game or two of Keno) with his morning crew at Pudding Brook.

Tom loved the beach and enjoyed many summers in Humarock with Maureen, the six Weldon children and countless friends. In the Fall, Tom arranged his Saturdays and Sundays around watching football with family. Those innumerable occasions were far more than just watching the games, but were family events with stories, laughs, food, and some nice Irish music in the background.

Tom’s calling card was a firm handshake, a friendly wink, and a hearty “God Bless,” always donning his trademark scally cap. When he pulled you in for a hug with his powerful mason’s hands and arms, you knew you were very welcome.

In his final days, Tom was surrounded by his family. Stories, music, memories, laughs, and tears were shared with him and with each other. In his final days, Tom told his exceptional health care team who observed the touching family scene that he was a “blessed man.”

The Weldon family is deeply grateful for the kind and compassionate care that Tom’s palliative care team provided in his final hours to both Tom and the family. The heart-felt support and thoughtful advice were a blessing to Tom and the entire family.

A mass will be celebrated in Tom’s honor on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 10:00am at Holy Family Church, 601 Tremont St., Duxbury, MA. Tom supported, loved, and respected the sacrifices and devotion of our veterans and first responders. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Tunnels to Towers Foundation in Tom’s memory.
