LONGMEADOW – Emily A. Giera, 95, of Longmeadow, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, September 8, 2024. She passed into Eternal Life at the JGS Lifecare in Longmeadow surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born at home in Chicopee Falls on October 2, 1928, a beloved daughter of the late Wladyslaw and Zofia (Wazesien) Giera. She was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Chicopee High School, and lived in Chicopee until moving to Longmeadow in 2016, where she lived the remainder of her life. She was a receptionist for over 20 years for Dr. Edward Salem in Chicopee and retired in 1998. She previously was a manager for 20 years in the business office at Forbes & Wallace in downtown Springfield. She was a longtime volunteer at the Chicopee Public Library. Emily was a longtime communicant of the Basilica of Saint Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr in Chicopee, where she served her parish as an Adult Altar Server, a Minister of the Holy Eucharist, a Confraternity of Christian Doctrine Instructor, and a visitor of the homebound. She leaves her four loving and devoted nieces, Patricia M. Hodges and her husband, Deacon Michael Hodges, of Longmeadow, Carol Dion and her husband, Alfred, of Myrtle Beach, SC, Dr. Emelie Kinney of Newtonville, NY, and Susan Sheehan of Westfield; her four loving and devoted nephews, Francis Sheehan of Chicago, IL, Michael Sheehan, Esq. and his wife, Ann, of Leesburg, VA, Daniel D. Sheehan and his wife, Heidi, of Boston, and Jon Sheehan and his wife, Nanda, of Hyde Park, NY; her cherished grandniece, Julie Bowder and her husband, Derrick, of Ware; her cherished grandnephew, Christopher R. Hodges of Longmeadow; her many cherished great grandnephews and great grandnieces; and her many dear friends and extended family members. Her funeral will be held on Monday, September 16, 2024 beginning at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107 (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Basilica of Saint Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr, 570 Front Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Stanislaus Cemetery, 800 Montgomery Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, September 15, 2024 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Her family requests that memorial donations be made in her memory to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
