Michael J. Barker, of Woburn passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington. He was 68 years old. Michael was the beloved husband of Jacqui (Hancock) Barker and together they shared 29 years of marriage. Born in the Brighton section of Boston, he was the son of Dorothy (Jackson) Barker and the late Charles F. Barker.
Michael was raised in Medford and Woburn and was a graduate of Austin Prep High School. He went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Finance from Bentley University. He worked for many years in accounting and finance with Star Market, Keystone, and BNY Mellon. Michael was an avid traveler and especially loved cruising the world with his wife, family and friends.
Michael was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2007. After his diagnosis, he devoted himself to rigorous physical fitness routines as a way of dealing with his daily challenges, which he always met with determination and a positive outlook along with the constant support of his wife Jacqui.
Michael was especially proud and participated in the milestones of his nieces and nephews and the children of close friends, all of whom he considered his nieces and nephews. He also enjoyed volunteer work at the Woburn Senior Center, always with a helping hand. Michael’s deep love for his family and friends shined through every day. Despite his struggles, Mike’s conversations and gentle nature focused on the well-being and needs of others. Michael will always be remembered for his selflessness and kind soul.
In addition to his beloved wife, Jacqui, and mother, Dorothy, Michael is survived by his siblings, David Barker and his wife Lisa of Boxford, Denise Stone and her husband Dennis of Woburn, and Carolyn Turner and her husband John of Woburn. He was the loving uncle of Heather Barker, David Barker, Jessica Murphy and her husband Andrew, Michael Stone, Jack Turner, and Emma Turner, as well as extended family and friends, including the Coynes, Giuntas, and Violas.
Funeral services will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, WOBURN, Saturday, September 14th, at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass celebrated in St. Raphael Church, 514 High St., MEDFORD, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Services will conclude with burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
