Rosemary (Scott) Ellis, 94, of Westlake Village, CA, passed away on September 1, 2024. Born
in Newark, NJ to Charles and Mary Maguire on November 22, 1929, she lived a vibrant and
fulfilling life and will be remembered for her love of family, theater, and her many friends. She
also considered books her friends and often found herself living adventures within their pages.
As a result, there were few topics that she wasn’t an expert and could strike up a conversation
with anyone easily finding a common topic to share or debate.
Growing up in Nutley, New Jersey with her seven sisters (as Roger loved to say, “and each of
them had seven sisters”), she developed a love for Broadway and worked at the Palace Theatre
reminding stars like Judy Garland that they were on in 5 minutes. She met her husband, Roger,
of 57 years at the Studio Playhouse in Montclair. After they were married on March 30, 1963,
Roger was accepted at Imede International School of Business in Lausanne, Switzerland, which
introduced Scott to her love of travel. Roger’s aerospace career brought the family to the West
Coast where in 1969, they settled in the newly established town of Westlake Village, CA.
Making their life there, they raised 2 children, launched the Westlake Theatre Company, and
were strong supporters of Westminster Presbyterian Church and Calvary Community Church.
Scott joined the Pepperdine University family to support Tracey and Dean’s college experience.
She was a very successful fundraiser for scholarships that gave many other students the
opportunity to attend the school.
Scott loved all art forms and enjoyed working as a coordinator for James Coleman’s studio for
many years. His paintings, with handwritten messages of appreciation, decorated every wall of
Scott and Roger’s home. We’re sure she’s now singing “Hello Dolly” and “Oh What a Beautiful
Morning” with Roger and the Angels in Heaven.
Scott is survived by her daughter Tracey and son-in-law Victor, son Dean and daughter-in-law
Diana, and granddaughter Jenna, as well as her sisters Joanie, Marlene, Gloria, Margie and
Cynthia and brother-in-law Dave. She was preceded in death by her sisters Mary Jane & Patty.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Pepperdine University’s Seaver College are
appreciated. give.pepperdine.edu/seaver/programs. Arrangements are under the direction of the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, Ventura, CA.
