Thelma Wood Shipman, 94, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Sunday, September 8, 2024, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Thursday, September 12, 2024, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Mrs. Shipman was born January 26, 1930, in Ben Hill County, Georgia, to the late John Henry & Oppie Lee Sandiford Wood. Mrs. Shipman was a bookkeeper at Warner Robins Air Force Base. She was a devout Christian and led many to Christ. Mrs. Shipman was very family oriented, loved kids and devoted her life to tending to her daddy’s farm. She was a member of Abba Baptist Church.
She is survived by two nephews whom she raised like children: John Christopher Wood of Fitzgerald and Jeffery John Wood of Fitzgerald; a niece, Laura Taylor & Morgan of Fitzgerald; great nephews: Kendel Hodges & Amanda, Samuel Hodges and Codey Taylor; great-great-nephews and a niece: Tyler Hodges, Ethan Hodges and Hadlee Hodges. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Zane Shipman and four brothers: Harvey Wood, Lamar Wood, Jerry Wood and Johnny Wood, Jr.
