Worcester: Diane Margaret Giguere, 89, passed away on Sunday, September 8th, 2024 at the Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehab Center in Worcester, MA.
Diane was born on April 28th, 1935 in Montreal, Canada to the late Joseph and Josephine (Bourbannais) Giguere. Although born in Canada, Diane grew up and spent her entire adult life as a resident of Worcester, MA. A graduate of Commerce High School in Worcester, she went on to earn a B.A. in Education from Anna Maria College and an M.A. in Religious Education from Assumption College. A devote Catholic, Diane was a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Anne for 17 years, teaching in the Parochial School System in Massachusetts and New York. After leaving St. Anne’s she taught at Holy Name Central Catholic High School for 18 years. An avid tennis player, Diane was captain of her high school tennis team and later went on to coach high school tennis for several years. She was also a member of the Holden Tower’s Tennis Club. Always on the move, Diane could often be found grabbing her favorite Dunkin coffee or at the Greendale YMCA, where she was an active member for over 40 years.
A loving and eccentric aunt, Diane will be missed by her family and friends. She is survived by five nieces and nephews: Cheryl Poirier wife of the late Dr. Jon Goguen of Holden, MA, Dr. Stephen Poirier and his wife Angela of Dennis, MA, Deborah Poirier of Durango, CO, Christine Massucco and her husband Mel of Worcester, MA, and John Poirier and his wife Laura of Millbury, MA; nine grandnieces and grandnephews: Jackson, Amber, Michelle, Jason, Andrew, Dylan, Jennifer, William, and Liam and; a great-grandniece, Sylvan, and great-grandnephew, Roman. She was predeceased by her brother Gerard Poirier of Worcester, MA.
A calling hour and memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 25th, 2024. A memorial calling hour will be from 9:30-10:30 at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester, MA. A memorial service will begin with a 11:00 am Mass at Our Lady of the Rosary, 25 Fales Street, Worcester, MA followed by burial and committal at Notre Dame Cemetery in Worcester, MA. As a passionate animal lover, in lieu of flowers Diane wished for donations to be made to the Worcester Animal Rescue League in her name (https://worcesterarl.org/donate/).
