Karen H. (Girard) Barsum, 77, of Worcester and formerly of Eddy Pond died Sunday, September 8th in the Christopher House. Her husband of 30 years, Jack Barsum died in 2004. She leaves a son, Daniel E. Barsum and his wife, Emily of South Grafton; her beloved granddaughter, Evelyn to whom she was the one and only Mimi; several cousins including Elaine M. Terlizzi and Robert Bovick and his wife, Colleen; and a godchild, Cheryl Stevens.
She was born in Boston, the daughter of Ernest O. and Annette M. (Bovick) Girard. Karen was a graduate of St. Peter’s High School and Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing, dedicating her career to helping others. Karen worked for many years as a nurse at Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital, where her compassion and dedication touched the lives of many patients.
A woman of deep faith, Karen was a devoted member of Our Lady of the Angels Church. She also held memberships with the American Legion Auxiliary in Charlton and the Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association, staying connected with those who shared her passion for service.
Karen found joy in the simple things of life. She loved solving puzzles, enjoying time at Foxwoods, and exploring the world through travel. Among her favorite adventures were cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean, where she created lasting memories.
Her funeral is Wednesday, September 11th with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street (Please go directly to church). Burial will be held at a later date in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady the Angels Church.
