Mystic — Janis L. (Johnson) Ingham, 69, of 2590 Gold Star Hwy., Mystic, wife of the late John Ingham, passed away Friday, Sept. 6, 2024, at home at the Haley Brook Community she so loved.
Janis was born on February 5, 1955, to William and Jennie (Hansen) Johnson in Brooklyn, New York.
She attended Springfield College where she obtained a bachelors degree in 1977 and began her teaching career. Janis then received a Masters Degree from Connecticut College in 1987.
She moved to the Mystic area where she began a 37 year teaching career in the Stonington Public School System including being a beloved head coach of the Stonington High School Girls field hockey team.
Janis served as President of the PTO at the Pawcatuck Middle School and was inducted into the Stonington Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008 ; she was an avid golfer and along with her husband, John they golfed in Myrtle Beach and the courses at Disney in Florida. Janis was 1986 Club Champion at the Elmridge Golf Course.
Janis moved to Haley Brook Condominiums with her Sisters and brother-in-law in 2016, where she presently served as residential service coordinator.
She is survived by her brother-in-law, Timothy Desillier of Mystic with whom she made her home; two sisters in law , Jeanne DeMovick of Weekapaug, RI and Charlene Ingham of Greenhill , RI
Janis is pre deceased by two sisters and a brother in law ; Doris and her husband Hugh Angor and Carol Desillier.
Calling hours will be Thursday, Sept. 12 from 2 to 7 PM at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., historic downtown Mystic. A Graveside Service will be held Friday, Sept. 13, 11 AM at Elm Grove Cemetery, with Pastor Cal Lord officiating, where she will be laid to rest in the family plot.
