Obituary

William Joseph Scannell, Jr. - Formerly of Tewksbury, MA, Wakefield, MA, and South Boston entered into eternal life on September 3, 2024 at age 89.

Beloved husband of the late Evelyn Rose (Towne) Scannell, loving and devoted father of William J. (Michelle) Scannell 3rd, Patricia Ann (Scannell) Price, and Paul R. Scannell; the cherished “Papa” of his grandchildren Patrick T. Hunt, Kevin J. Hunt, Nathaniel P. Price, Julia R. Price, William J. Scannell IV, and Stephen A. Scannell.

William was born to Elsie (Turner) and William Scannell and brother of Robert J. (Sheila) Scannell of Bridgewater, Ann Marie (George) Noonan of Milton, and the late Mary Jane Rheault; and Uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Bill was fondly known to many as the “Mackerel Hunter” for his love of saltwater fishing on the ocean and shores of Plum Island and Shelburne, Nova Scotia. Bill served in the US Army and was a Veteran of the Korean War. A Bentley University Alumni, he retired as Supervisory Auditor for the MWRA. WIlliam will be remembered for his sharp mind, honorable character, strength in dignity, and kind generous heart, always there for his family, friends or soul in need of advice or a helping hand.

A graveside service will be held at the Bourne Massachusetts National Cemetary at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brockton VA Medical Center in heartfelt thanks for their care and kindness. https://tinyurl.com/VABostonHealthdonation
