Joan Goodell (Baker) Polito, 87, of Abington, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at Queen
Anne Nursing Home on Tuesday, September 4, 2024. She was born April 9, 1937, to Clyde and
Doris Baker in Braintree. She was the second of four children, and attended Holbrook schools
along with her older sister, the late Gail Lambert of Hanson, and younger twin brothers, Clyde
Baker of Cohasset and Theodore Baker of Hanson. She graduated from Holbrook High School in
1955.
In 1958, Joan married the love of her life, the late William Paul Polito and they enjoyed 49 years
together. She worked for the Town of Abington in the school cafeteria system until her retirement in 2015.
She enjoyed bowling, traveling with her husband to Hawaii and Alaska, taking long walks with
her sister, dining with her girlfriends, and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.
She will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her two sons, Richard and David.
She leaves behind her oldest son Richard Polito of Abington, his wife Jacquelyn (Funder) Polito and
their four children, Alexandra Polito and her husband Alex Ignachuck of Pelham, New
Hampshire; Michael Polito and his wife Sara (Riordan) Polito of Odenton, Maryland; Marc Polito
and his wife Leonie Hoyo of Quincy, Massachusetts; and Jacquelyn Polito and her fiancé
Benjamin Rubin of Quincy, Massachusetts.
Joan leaves behind her youngest son David Polito, his wife Jeanne (Sawyer) Polito of Graham,
North Carolina and their two children, Jon Polito and his wife Molly (Thomas) Polito of Gallatin,
Tennessee; and Deanna (Polito) Sakin and her husband Noah Sakin of Graham, North Carolina.
Joan also leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving great grandchildren, Luke and Samuel
Ignachuck, Gianna Polito, Emmeline and Theodore Polito and Baby Boy Thomas-Polito, along
with many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to Blanchard Funeral Chapel, 666 Plymouth Street, Whitman, MA.
