Josephine R. “Jo” Votta, age 98, of Brockton, died peacefully on September 4, 2024 at Southeast Health Care in North Easton.
She was the daughter of the late Antonio and Rosina (Martino) Votta and sister of the late Carmella “Millie” Votta and Frances “Fran” Votta.
Born in Boston, she was raised in East Boston and was a graduate of East Boston High School.
Jo retired as the manager of the Payroll Department of Sears Department Store in Boston after 40 years of employment. She was strong willed, kind, independent and energetic. She had a strong Catholic faith.
Jo loved animals; especially dogs and had many throughout her life. One of her favorite pastimes was baking. She was an avid baker and made endless desserts and made elaborate cakes for celebratory events. She also enjoyed gardening, cleaning and shopping. After retirement she spent her time volunteering at a local food pantry, participating in an investment group, and babysitting her beloved Goddaughter Krista Koldewey.
Jo is survived by her cherished chosen family James and Leona Hojlo of Stoughton and their children and grandchildren, Michael, Gina, Krista, Ava, Brooklyn, and Kennedy Josephine.
Visitation will be held at the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, on Tuesday, September 10, from 9-10am followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10:30am. Jo will then be buried with her family in Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.
