William E. “Bill” Howell, Retired Massachusetts Assistant Attorney General. Of Wakefield, formerly of Charlestown, passed away peacefully on the morning of September 2, 2024, surrounded by family and friends at the age of 94.
He is the husband of Joan Howell of Wakefield, formerly of Charlestown. He is the father of Nancy Howell of Wakefield and William E. Howell Jr of Saugus. He is the beloved brother of the late Marie Donovan, Ruth Thomas, Helen Putney, Sebastian Howell, Louis Howell, Thomas Howell, Michael Howell, Fredrick Howell & Jack Howell. He also leaves behind many loving and devoted nieces & nephews.
Bill graduated from Boston English High School, Northeastern University, and Boston University Law school where he was a member of the law review staff.
He was an accomplished long-distance runner finishing 16 marathons. An avid Sailor, Mountain climber, Motorcyclist, downhill and cross-country Skier. He could often be found enjoying the Boston waterfront while telling sea stories at Jeffries Yacht Club, East Boston. Proud member of the Charlestown Old Schoolboys Association. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Relatives & friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life for Bill on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 12 P.M. to 4 P.M. at Spinelli’s Function Facility, 10 Newbury St. (Rt. 1 South) in Peabody. Bill’s burial at the Veterans Administration National Cemetery in Bourne will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at 11:30 A.M.
