Mr. William E. Canane, a retired Andover Police Officer, passed away at the Lawrence General Hospital on Monday, September 2, 2024. He was 72 years old.
Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, on July 13, 1952, William was the beloved son of the late James E. and Isabelle (Skinner) Canane. William was a lifelong resident of Andover and was a graduate of AnnaMaria College, where he earned his Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He was employed by the Andover Fire Department, for several years, before becoming an Andover Police Officer and serving more than 30 years on the departments.
In his spare time, William enjoyed watching open wheel and Nascar racing. He was a very compassionate and loving person, always willing to help anyone in need of anything. He loved to travel, especially to Europe and all around the United States. William will be dearly missed by all who know him.
He is survived by his longtime partner; Susan D. Libby of Andover and many friends. He was the brother of the late James E. Canane.
A Graveside service will be held in the Spring Grove Cemetery, 5 Spring Grove Road, Andover on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 11 AM.
