Kathleen M. "Kathy" (Driscoll) Larson, 81, of Worcester, passed away, Wednesday, September 4th at Notre Dame Long Term Care Center. Her husband, Richard B. Larson died last year. She is survived by her two brothers, C. Stephen Driscoll and his wife, Gail of Kennebunk, ME and Estero, FL and John "Jack" Driscoll and his wife, Deborah of Sutton and nieces, Eileen McGinty, Margaret Driscoll, Mary Driscoll and her nephew, Cornelius Driscoll. She was predeceased by her brothers, Mark F. and James E. Driscoll and sister, Virginia M. Driscoll.
She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Cornelius S. and Catherine M. (McCann) Driscoll. Kathleen was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy and then entered the Order of the Sisters of Mercy. Later graduating from Anna Maria College with a BA in English and taught for the Diocese of Worcester. Upon leaving the Order, she taught in Spencer, then became a reporter for the Worcester Telegram and Gazette, served as Public Relations Director of Anna Maria College, Public Relations Coordinator and Donor Recruiter for the Community Blood Bank in St. Petersburg, FL and Job Developer for the Worcester Transitional Housing Job Training Program.
Kathleen found her calling of helping people by serving as Volunteer Coordinator for the Worcester Chapter of the American Red Cross. She then became the Recruitment Specialist of the American Red Cross, Northeast Region for Worcester County. Kathleen and Richard enjoyed an active life of sailing in the waters of Buzzards Bay and Narragansett Bay from the Long Cove Campground in Rhode Island for over 20 years. After moving to Englewood, FL Kathy was active in coordinating blood drives in the community. She and Dick volunteered at Senior Centers with their "Earl and Pearl" entertainment shows. They were awarded the "Clowns of America" badges for their efforts. Kathy and Dick traveled throughout North America, the Carribean and Europe.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday, September 14th with a service at 11:00 a.m. in O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. A visitation will be held from 10:00 until the time of the service in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Red Cross of Central Mass, 2000 Century Drive, Worcester, MA 01606 or to the Alzheimer's Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd, Waltham, MA 02452.
