Judith “Judy” Elaine (Yafrate) Crawford, beloved Wife, Mother and Nana, 83 of Hanson, MA, passed away on September 3, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving Children and Grandchildren, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Judy was born in 1940 in Brockton to the late Joseph A. Yafrate and the late Anne Laura (Turnbull) (Yafrate) Carreaux. Judy was a Hairdresser and Salon Owner in the 70s and later worked at the Foxboro Company, Electro Signal Lab in Rockland and retired as a Dispatcher at Tech Etch in Plymouth. Judy attended schools in Rockland, Hanson and Whitman and proudly received her High School Diploma from Whitman Hanson in 1988. In addition, Judy attended Brockton Beauty Academy and Graduated in 1970.
Judy’s life was full of love and adventure. She treasured being a Wife, Mom, and Nana. Family dinners, holidays, baking, amaretto, cook-outs, camping, campfires, being a Hanover hockey Mom, spontaneous road trips, dirt roads, the beach, crocheting baby outfits and blankets, cardinals, the Boston Bruins, Chris Janson, Elvis, and Graceland were some of her favorite things. She was a cat lover and has saved several homeless cats. She was especially proud of the life that Grumpy and Molly now share with her neighbor and friend Sue.
She devoted her life to her Husband and Children. She was a companion to Richie with his many positions at the Hanover Legion and went to many American Legion Conventions. Judy was a member of the Plymouth Women of the Moose Chapter 2218 and Plymouth Moose Lodge 2485. She travelled to many meetings and conventions with Sue and the Heffas. Later in life, Judy blossomed and became brave enough to travel by Plane and made many trips to Myrtle Beach, Tampa, Milwaukee, Chicago, Mooseheart, Nashville, Memphis, Idaho, Canada and had a lot of fun and laughs along the way. She cruised to Bermuda with the Hanover Hockey Moms and Daughters, travelled out to western Massachusetts with her son Scott, and enjoyed many dinners, campfires, laughter and love with her family and all that knew her. Until her last days, she supported and cared for her family and she will forever be our Queen.
Judy married the late Richard B. Crawford of Rockland in 1957 and celebrated their 50th Anniversary in 2007. They were married just under 53 years. Judy lived in Rockland, Hanover, and Hanson throughout her lifetime. Judy is survived by her 5 children, Christopher Crawford and his companion Kathy of Brockton, Brian Crawford of Pembroke, Andrew and Karen (Ainslie) Crawford of Halifax, Scott Crawford of Hanson and Sue Ellen (Crawford) and Peter Lincoln of Plymouth and her kitty Milo. She is also survived by her Grandchildren Jason Crawford of Hanover, Andrew Crawford of Halifax and fiancé Paige Parrella, Amanda Crawford and fiancé Braly Hiller of Marion, Emily (Crawford) and Dan Ferguson of Middleboro, Alison Crawford of Hanover, and Jonathan Crawford of Hanson. In addition, she is survived by her nieces Laura White, Gail Mulready and Lisa D’Orlando, nephews Ted Crawford Jr. and Tim Crawford, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins, childhood best friend Jean Marie and many friends and family throughout New England, the US and Canada.
She was pre-deceased by her Parents and Step Father James Carreaux, Spouse, In-Laws Harry and Ruth (Goulding) Crawford, Aunt Margaret (Turnbull) Foster, Uncle Richard Turnbull and Uncle Alfred “Bud” Turnbull, her Yafrate Aunties Ivy Grosso, Agnes Grosso, Rose Churchill and Arlene (Wager) Barton, her Yafrate Uncles Fred, Angelo, Silvio and Raymond, Sister Catherine (Yafrate) (Tufts) Torosian, Brothers-in-Law Theodore Crawford, Robert Crawford, Robert Tufts, Masrob “Jack” Torosian, Niece Karen Tufts, Daughter-in-Law Carol (Cavicchi) Deal and several Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and friends in the US and Canada.
Family and friends are invited to attend Judy’s visiting hours Friday, September 13th from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 14th at 11:00 AM at the funeral chapel, with a burial to follow at Hanover Center Cemetery. There will be a Celebration of Life at the Josselyn-Cummings Hanover American Legion Post #149, immediately following the burial. The Legion is located at 104 King Street, Hanover, MA 02339.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations made in memory of Judy Crawford to the Pat Roche Hospice Home or NVNA & Hospice, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA 02061. Or to help save more homeless cats in memory of Judy Crawford donations may be made to Standish Humane Society in Duxbury, or to your local no-kill animal shelter in her memory.
