Francis L. Alfe (“Frank”) passed away on September 4, 2024, at the age of 92. He left behind his loving daughter, Gerilyn Alfe, and son-in-law, Mark Sullivan, along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Frank was married to Rosemarie (Corrao) for 53 happy years until she passed in 2017.
Frank grew up in the North End of Boston with his dad John, mother Marion, and two sisters Gracemarie and Jeannette. He and his childhood friends remained close throughout their entire lives. They played cards every Tuesday night for over 50 years.
As a child and teen, he spent many happy summers at Maplewood’s Caddy Camp in New Hampshire. He loved the game and was a scratch golfer when he was younger.
After high school, he served in the Army during the Korean War. His group of friends during his service was known as “The Thirsty Thirteen.”
He graduated from Boston College and was a life-long Eagles fan. After graduation, he worked at Gilchrist’s as a buyer.
He then moved onto Grossman’s, where he was a buyer for more than 30 years. For many years, he served as the emcee at the annual Manager’s Meetings.
He married Rosemarie in 1963, and they moved to Medford. Gerilyn joined their family in 1967. Frank always put his family first and helped to support Gerilyn as she worked her way through Tufts University and Tufts School of Dental Medicine.
After retiring from Grossman’s, he enjoyed golfing with his friends at Unicorn Golf Course. He and Rosemarie loved to travel and planned at least 2-3 trips each year with friends and family.
He was an active member of the Retired Men’s Club in Arlington. He served as trustee for his condo building in Medford for a number of years.
Frank always put others before himself. He actively supported Wounded Warriors, Boys Town, and the Anti-Cruelty Society.
Frank was always known for his quick wit, fantastic sense of humor, his deep religious faith, his generous spirit, his work ethic, and his pragmatism. He is deeply missed.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Frank’s funeral on Tuesday, September 10th at 9 AM from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Joseph’s Church, 118 High St., Medford at 10 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford, with a collation to follow, for all who wish to attend, at Anthony’s in Malden. Visiting hours will be at the funeral home on Monday from 4 – 7 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frank’s name to Wounded Warriors, Boys Town, or the Anti-Cruelty Society.
