Lucille Latour (98) of Cumberland, RI knew how to love.
Needless to say, she understood the assignment of God’s gift, and anyone who met her was shown that love, along with kindness and a remarkable sense of humor.
On September 4, 2024, Lucille peacefully passed in the care of her family and the supportive team at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI.
Born in Woonsocket in 1926, she was the daughter of the late William and Delvica (Bruneault) Gadbois. She attended St. Xavier’s Girls Academy in Providence and though born in Woonsocket, Lucille grew up in Manville where she loved to tap dance but also enjoyed being the tomboy and playing baseball. Lucille and her family were longtime faithful parishioners of St. James Church .
In her career, Lucille worked at the Manville-Jenckes mill, Argonne Worsted Company, and later at American Tourister and Health-Tex before retiring.
She was the loving wife of Marcel R. Latour, who she shared many wonderful years and memories until his passing in 2004.
Lucille was the devoted mother of the late Madeleine M. Latour who passed away in September 2009 and made their home together for many years. The family takes comfort in knowing that Lucille will be reunited with her husband and daughter.
Lucille enjoyed dining out and taking excursions to local casinos to try her luck at gaming. Whether or not she hit it big, Lucille had fun. She also enjoyed a good road trip, whether to see her grandson Ryan in NYC or heading out on the next trip her son Denis had planned with his many collecting hobbies. Whatever it was, she was in. She never shied away from having an adventure. Anyone who has a custom piece of furniture built by her son Denis also should know that it was most likely stained or painted by Lucille during the many hours she’d spend in the workshop keeping him company. After lifting 2x4’s and cleaning the sawdust, the coffee breaks always needed to be accompanied by a good donut.
Lucille is survived by her son Denis Latour of Blackstone and his wife Donna, who she considered a daughter. She was the proud Mémère of Matthew Latour and his wife Caitlin of Franklin and Ryan Latour and his husband Christopher of Vancouver, Washington.
Let us not forget that she was also the great-grandmother of Henry, Nora and Molly Latour and was the sister of Muriel Gadbois, the late Estelle Desjardins, and the late Juliette Mandeville and is survived by many other nieces and nephews and their families.
Lucille had a purpose in life. She was always there when you needed her, no matter what the circumstances were. She bore the weight of tragic events and never ceased to share the joyous moments. She taught everyone to laugh a little and to take care of those you loved. She will be missed deeply.
Everyone is welcome to gather to honor, remember and pray for Lucille at her funeral Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at 8:30 am at the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. James Church, 33 Division St. Manville. Lucille will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband Marcel and daughter Madeleine in the family lot at St. James Cemetery in Manville.
