STANDISH- Elsonia M. Lewis of Standish, Maine passed away on September 3, 2024, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, Maine.
Elsonia, most commonly known as Sonia, was born January 17, 1952, in Westbrook, Maine to parents Laura (Norton) and Fred Cote. She was raised alongside her brother Gerald and sister Pearl. Sonia graduated from Bonny Eagle High School, and was proud to pursue a career as a LPN thereafter. Sonia was known for her bedside manner, motherly ways, and being a trusting person. After working as an LPN, Sonia became a quality check team leader in manufacturing, where she met her loving husband of 36 years, Robert Lewis. They happily married in 2007 and resided in Standish. Together they enjoyed riding their motorcycles, having cats and dogs, and family time. Some things Sonia appreciated were reading, baking, her grandchildren, and daisies. Later in life she retired from manufacturing and relished in her hobbies.
Sonia is survived by her husband Robert Lewis of Standish, her children - son, Christopher Garland and wife Andrea Garland of Portland, and their children Elicia Fortier and Michelle Fortier, daughter Amanda Shipman and husband Dennis Shipman Jr. of Limerick, and their kids Dennis Shipman III and Grace Shipman, her brother Gerald Cote and his wife Patti of Limington, and 3 great grandchildren.
Sonia is predeceased by her parents Laura (Norton) and Fred Cote, and her sister Pearl.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland to honor Sonia’s deep love for animals.
