With great sadness, we announce the passing of Marie Welch (Gasdia), loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on August 30, 2024.
Marie was fiercely proud of her family. Jack, her husband of 54 years until he passed in 2014, was the love of her life and together they parented four devoted sons and lived a life full of love and blessings.
Marie was born in Somerville to Dominic and Mary Gasdia, the youngest of seven children. She grew up in Brookline, where she remained after she married Jack. They built a house in Sandwich early in their marriage and spent every summer there until they moved there permanently in 2004.
Marie loved cooking lasagna and other Italian specialties for her family, her ceramics, and spending time with Jack, enjoying the ocean views and breathing the salt air. Her family and her faith were her everything and she left this earth believing she had done all she had hoped to do. No one can ask for anything more.
Marie leaves behind her four boys, John and his wife Diana, Joseph and his wife Lynne, Michael and his wife Jennifer, and David and his wife Kriston. Also seven grandchildren, John and his wife Sarai, Rebecca and her husband Chris, David and his wife Anna, Shea, Jakob, Gabrielle and Isabella and three great-grandchildren, Dahlia, Theodore and John.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 7, at 10:30 am at St. Theresa of Avila Church, 2078 Centre Street West Roxbury. Interment to follow at St. Michael Cemetery, Roslindale.
