Ed Dowd –97 died August 23, 2024 peacefully at his home following period of declining health. He was born In Brooklyn, New York on June 10, 1927. His parents were Alice Steele and Martin Dowd. He attended and graduated from Northeastern University. He served in the US Navy during WWII. He traveled throughout Europe and worked for the government. He was married to his first late wife Sheryl Dowd and later remarried to late Grace Dowd. Most people have a piece of furniture in their home that you no longer see it as a sofa or chair, but you see it as a reminder of the one who filled it. Add a quiet person and avid reader would make a trip to the library three times a week. He would come home and sit in the corner of the living room in anticipation to open his new collection of books. Some of his interest, other than reading were bowling, playing bridge, and singing in a barbershop quartet. Old Orchard Beach in Maine is a place where both Ed and Grace would spend their summers walking on the beach. Ed had a quiet but peaceful life. He touched many people with his quiet, sensitive, gentle nature. He will be missed, but so many lovely and fond memories will live in in so many hearts.
