Dawn Thrall Carlson passed away on September 1 2024 at her home in Eastham MA at the young age of 93. She was preceded in death by her husband Elbert (Bert) and son Brian. She is survived by her son Brent and his wife Jo Ann and their four children Krissy, Jared, Benjamin and Becca and nine grandchildren, her son Barry and his wife Jane and their children Sarah, Elizabeth and Annie and six grandchildren, Brian’s sons Ian and Josh and one grandchild and her daughter Beth and her two children Jordan and Jaimie.
Dawn and Bert raised their family in Coventry CT. She was a housewife at home raising her four children. She was her kids greatest fan and cheerleader at sporting events. Dawn was a member of the 2nd Congregational Church in Coventry and became a teachers aid in the elementary school for several years, She and Bert had a tax service every year and she was his “gal friday” banging out those tax returns on an old royal typewriter. After retirement they moved to Eastham MA out on Cape Cod.
She was a devoted wife, wonderful mother, and loving grandmother who would sell fresh cut flowers in front of their home to have extra change for the game barn with her grandchildren.
She was active in the Eastham methodist church always willing to help with fundraising sales and spaghetti dinners and the Eastham Historical Society,
She was the owner of the Birches Antiques and involved in several antique coops and numerous antique shows in her younger years.
She loved to go out clamming, whether it was quahogs in Salt Pond, oysters in Wellfleet or steamers in Nauset Marsh. Dawn never shied away from the smelly fish bait she and Bert used when putting out recreational lobster pots.
She cherished her friends and loved to entertain. If you were a friend of Dawn Carlson’s you were a friend for life. Her boundless joy and caring spirit will sorely be missed.
In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial donation to either the American Heart Association or the VNA Hospice of Cape Cod. Arrangements will be made for a private celebration of life at a future time.
