Mary T. Shortell, age 89, a resident of the Village at Willow Crossing in Mansfield, formerly of Pittsfield, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 2, 2024.
Born in Pittsfield, MA on September 25, 1934, she was a loving daughter of the late James E. and Lucy E. (Dempsey) Shortell.
Mary grew up in the town of Pittsfield and was a 1952 graduate of Pittsfield High School. She had made her home in Mansfield for the past eight years and prior to retiring, was employed for over fifty years at the Berkshire Life Insurance Company. She retired when the company changed over to Guardian Life Insurance with the position of Business Manager.
Mary was a devout Catholic and a former active parishioner of Saint Mark’s Church in Pittsfield. Her adoring family was always the main ingredient of her life and she enjoyed traveling in both the United States and abroad and was ever-so-proud of her Irish heritage.
She was the dear sister of Elizabeth A. Perdue of Foxborough. She was the loving and treasured aunt of Sonja L. Stern and her husband Larry of Foxborough, Lisa A. Perdue of Hingham and Roger D. Perdue and his wife Christine of Florida. She was the cherished great aunt of Jessica Stern of Boston, Brianna Stern of Walpole, Carlie Stern of Boston and Nicholas Perdue of Florida.
Her Funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Saturday, September 7th at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt Street (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will take place on Tuesday, September 10th at 11:00 A.M. at Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Spring Street, in Lee.
