Obituary

Polly Ann Harris Davis, 91, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died peacefully Saturday, August 31, 2024, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Greg Pope officiating. Entombment will follow at 3 PM, Wednesday, in the Chapel of the Pines Mausoleum at Park Hill Cemetery in Columbus, Georgia. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the services at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mrs. Davis was born April 9, 1933, in White, Georgia, to the late James Marshall “Shack” Harris & Sara E. Griffin Harris. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 70 years, James “Jimmie” Davis; their son, James H. Davis, Jr.; a sister, Lucy Glenn Duling (Rev. H.B. Duling) and her brothers: Calvin “Shack” Harris (Norma Harris), James “Dixie” Harris (Alees Harris & Lil Harris) and a loving nephew, Bruce Duling.

She graduated from Talbot County High School in 1950, where she lettered in basketball. Mrs. Davis attended Bessie Tift College and taught school in Mountain Hill, Georgia, where she met the love of her life, James “Jimmie” Davis.

While living in Columbus, Georgia, she was an active member of Wynnton Baptist Church where she served in the nursery for 18 years. After moving to Fitzgerald, Georgia, she became a member of First Baptist Church and the Dorcas Sunday School class. Mrs. Davis also served on the benevolence committee with her husband Jim and their close friends. She was the oldest member of the Magnolia Garden Club, where she served as president and a member of the Do Nothing Club. She also volunteered at the Christian Kitchen. Mrs. Davis loved gardening and cooking! She loved sharing plants from her yard with others. She was known for her squash casserole (family favorite). While living in Columbus she received the nick name Polly Pound Cake for her delicious pound cake.

Mrs. Davis loved spending time with her family and traveling with her husband to meat packing conventions and later in their RV.

She is survived by her daughter and her husband, Ann (Pete) Waller of Sugar Hill; three grandchildren: Adam Davis of Woodstock, Ashley (Frank) Warren of Maysville and April (Curtis) Kelley of Alpharetta; two great-grandchildren: Grace Kelley and Caroline Kelley; Dorothea Davis and several nieces, nephews whom she loved dearly and countless loving friends she considered family.
