Obituary

CHICOPEE – Jacqueline C. “Jackie” (Brien) Couture, 92, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Friday, August 30, 2024. She passed into Eternal Life at her home surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Holyoke on May 28, 1932, a beloved daughter of the late Arthur L. and Yvonne (Archambault) Brien. She was raised in the Willimansett section of Chicopee and around 1940 moved to the Fairview section of Chicopee where she lived the remainder of her life. She operated an Ironing and Laundry business for many years and previously worked at her dad’s store, Al’s Market in Willimansett. She also worked at the Food Mart on South Street in Holyoke. Her pride and joy was opening Jackie’s Variety and Delicatessen in Fairview where she made many friends. She was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Fairview. During her leisure time, Jackie enjoyed going to the many Bingo games in the area. She was predeceased by her first husband, Walter Miras who was Called Home on June 30, 1957 and her beloved husband and soul mate, Raymond G. Couture who was Called Home on September 18, 2022. They were married on September 1, 1958 at Saint Anne Church in Fairview and her blessed with over 64 years of happiness together. She leaves her two loving and devoted children, CindyLee M. Laramee and her husband, Peter, of South Hadley, and Brien A. Couture and his wife, Paula, of Wales; her four cherished grandchildren, Benjamin Laramee and his wife, Sarah, Noelle Conachen and her husband, Ryan, Brien A. Couture, Jr, and Miranda Couture; her two cherished great-grandchildren, Lucy Conachen and Lee Conachen; her dear sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Barbara Slowick and her husband, Edward, Nancy Buckley and her husband, James, Paul Couture and his wife, Joanne, Roy Couture and his wife, Patricia, Ann Couture, Joan Moore and her husband, William, Marilyn Couture and George Thompson; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended family members. Besides her parents and husbands, she was also predeceased by her dear brother, Leon Brien and his wife, Rita; and her three dear sisters, Cecile Paquette and her husband, William, Claire Poirier and her husband, Veryl, and Pauline Dore and her husband, Edward. Her family would like to thank some very special people for their care and comfort to Jackie during her illness, her caregiver, June, who brought so much comfort to Jackie, her daily telephone companion, Suzanne, her Wednesday lunch companion, Linda, and Nilsa from Titan Senior Services who made Jackie’s Journey Home so special. Her family will receive friends on Saturday morning, September 7, 2024 from 9 am to 10:30 a.m. which will be followed by a Prayer Service at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the service at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
