Elaine H. Glod, 80, of Derry, NH, died Saturday, August 31, 2024 in the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 13, 1944 in East Derry, NH, a daughter of the late Donald and Marion (Kimball) Houston. She lived in Alaska, North Carolina and Germany before returning to Derry for the past 44 years. Elaine was a graduate of Pinkerton Academy in Derry, Class of 1962, Keene State University, Class of 1966, and the University of Alaska with her Master's degree in 1973. In her academic years she always made time for field hockey, glee club, and playing clarinet in the bands. Over her long career she had been employed as an elementary school teacher in Auburn, Hooksett, Salt Lake City, Germany, and Exeter, ultimately retiring after 20 years at Danville Elementary School. Elaine was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Derry where she enjoyed playing the piano, singing in the choir, and teaching children. She enjoyed traveling and was able to experience the beautiful sites of Western Europe and Japan. She made beautiful arts and crafts through quilling, sewing, cross-stitch embroidery, basket making, and origami. She loved her many dogs, cats and all animals. Elaine was also active in the 4H Club and loved to spend summers at Bear Hill Camp and Cape Hayward. She volunteered as a Den leader in the Boy Scouts of America and was active in the Grange for many years. She will be remembered for her delicious cooking, upbeat attitude, and her love of her family, country, and God.
She is survived by her son, David Glod and his wife Olena of Draper, UT; her daughter, Stacy Hunt and her husband Bill of Derry. She loved her eight grandchildren: William and Ryan Hunt; Stephen, Lindsey, Rebekah, Max, Rachel and Sydney; her sister, Glenna Houston of Norfolk, VA; and the father of her children, Stephen Glod of Derry.
Following cremation, a celebration of Elaine’s beautiful life will be shared on Saturday, September 7, 2024 with a visitation at 10am and a service full of music and memories at 11 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 50 Adams Pond Rd. in Derry. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium of Derry and Londonderry are assisting the family with arrangements.
