John Aruda
Ledyard — John Andrew Aruda, 81, of Ledyard, died on Monday, Aug. 19, 2024, at his home. He was born Oct. 18, 1942, the son of John and Irene Arruda.
John was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1966. He always spoke fondly about his years serving and flying in the Air Force. He worked for many years as a weld Inspector at Electric Boat.
John loved living on Long Pond and referred to it as living “on Golden Pond.” He enjoyed talking about his many “adventures” during his youth. John’s favorite holidays were the Fourth of July and giving presents at Christmas.
He is survived by his brother Raymond Arruda; brother-in-law Edward Heinold; nephew John Heinold; and niece Debra Kostinden and her husband James Kostinden. John is also survived by his much-loved dog, Chloe, “the Bandit.” He will also be terribly missed by a family of many close friends. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sister Nancy Heinold; and brothers, Richard Arruda and Gary Arruda.
Visitation will begin at 10:00am followed by a Prayer Service at 10:45am on Friday, Sept. 6, at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. Burial with full military honors will immediately follow in Stonington Cemetery, Route One, Stonington.
