Obituary

Susanna Tuttle Stone, 80, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, passed away on August 21, 2024, in Woodbridge, Virginia.

A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, August 30, 2024, at Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Bryan Luke officiating.

Born on September 22, 1943, in Edison, New Jersey, to the late Earl and Susanna Newhart Tuttle, Susan lived a life full of adventure and love. She was never one to shy away from a spontaneous journey, embracing each new experience with a fearless and vibrant personality. Her laughter was contagious, her voice unmistakable, and her spirit uncontainable.

Susan’s pride and joy were her family, both by blood and by heart. To her, family extended far beyond the traditional sense, including lifelong friends who she considered her own. She was the rock upon which her grandchildren leaned, always there with open arms and wise words. Her home was a haven of love, support, and laughter—a place where memories and sauce were made and cherished. She was affectionately known as Mom, Nanna, Suzie, and Sushi to the people she held dear. She was always proud of her sons and the men she had raised, ready to tell anyone that would listen.

Professionally, Susan was proud of her accomplishments as a hairdresser and day care owner. She had a unique talent for connecting with people and leaving an indelible mark on their lives. Her love for animals, especially her horses and dogs, led her to a successful career in showing them, where she earned respect and admiration from her peers.

Susan is survived by her children: Joey Costa and Becky of Fitzgerald, Jimmy Costa and Carolyn of Fitzgerald, and David Stone and Nikki of Woodbridge, Virginia; step-daughters: Ann DeBerry and Jeffrey of Ocilla, Mindy Tucker and Russell of Ocilla, and Dicie Sulatyski of Ocilla; grandchildren: Whitney Costa, Matt Costa, Steven Costa, Jason Costa, Rebecca Oellerich, Matthew Hines, Blake Bucknell, Megan Taylor, Mia Stone, Angelica Gallegos, Sarelli Gallegos, Joey Fulford, Jason Tucker, Cody Tucker, Courtney Tucker, Rosie Tucker, Madison Sulatyski, Scotty Sulatyski, and Gage Sulatyski; and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her extended family, affectionately known as daughters: Terri Sumner and Joy Buras.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Isom Stone, her son, Anthony Costa, and grandchildren Dustin Varnadore and Kayla Varnadore.

Susan lived life on her own terms, surrounded by love, adventure, and the people she held dear. Her legacy is one of strength, passion, and an unwavering love for her family, both chosen and given.
