Helen Potter Reed, a native and lifelong resident of Westport, MA, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Tuesday August 27th, 2024 at the age of 91.
Helen is survived by her loving husband and life time sweetheart, Richmond F. Reed, of whom she was married to for 70 years. In addition, she leaves behind her two daughters Susan E. Taylor (late Roger W. Taylor) and Lori Lima (Edward F. Lima), as well as four grandchildren; the late Andrew S. Taylor, Krista E. Lima, Kelsey E. Lima, and Adam R. Lima. She was the daughter of the late Frederick and Margaret Stowell, and sister to her three late siblings Phyllis Tripp, Edith Bowman, and Winifred Willams.
Helen was a homemaker and also worked in the food service industry. She had a very fulfilling life of boating, camping, and vacationing at her camp where she and her husband explored the Maine woods on their ATVs. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, knitting, puzzle books, crafting, seasonal floral arrangements, and the occasional game of Bingo with her grandchildren. In her hay day she enjoyed roller skating at Lincoln Park, and one of her favorite past times was thrifting at Savers. Helen was perhaps best known for her love for dogs, especially Dobermans. She was an advocate for the Doberman Rescue Unlimited, and rescued several Dobermans over her lifetime. Helen led an energetic life and her spunky, spitfire personality will be dearly missed.
Richmond and Helen’s memorial will be held at Beech Grove Cemetery in Westport, MA on October 16, 2024 at 11:00 am. We will celebrate their lives on the anniversary of their very first date over 70 years ago.
