Barbara A. (Wilson) Fowkes, age 87, of Bridgewater passed away on August 26, 2024, at South Shore Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born on December 1, 1936 to Joseph and Helena (Whooley) Wilson in Boston, Massachusetts.
Known for her loving, kind, funny, and joyful nature, Barbara brought warmth and laughter wherever she went. Playing bingo was one of her favorite pastimes, and she was an avid bowler in her younger years. She also cherished spending time with her beloved cats, Cinnamon, and Spice. A day at the beach, a breakfast outing (with extra butter on everything), or indulging in a banana split were among her greatest delights.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Red" Fowkes, who she was married to for 45 years, and is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Barbara's memory will be cherished and kept alive by the many lives she touched.
Visiting hours for Barbara will be held on Tuesday, September 3rd, from 9:00-10:00 AM with a funeral service to follow at 10:00 AM at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, located on Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) in Whitman, MA. A private interment will be held following for family when she joins her husband at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
